Team Celebration:
It is time to celebrate a successful season! Join us on May 21st at New Vintage Church starting at 6:30 pm as we highlight this amazing Montgomery Track & Field team.
NCS Redwood Empire Championships:
Absolutely amazing meet. Huge congratulations to our Unified team for capturing the Co-Ed Unified Championship title! For the second year in a row our Girls team took home second! We also had 10 PRs with two changes to our Montgomery all-time list. Sadie Sanders now has the fastest 400m time and Airik Parker sits at number 4 all-time in the 300m Hurdles!

Team Celebration:
Our end of the season celebration will be Tuesday, May 21 at New Vintage Church starting at 6:30 pm. Come and join us as we honor all of our athletes.
NBL Championships:
Our league championships were last Tuesday and Thursday and we had some fantastic results across the board; Unified, JV, and Varsity. Check out both the Press Democrat and Redwood Empire Running for coverage on the meet.
May 8th - Late Practice Start:
This Wednesday our practice will begin at 5:30 due to the Middle School Finals being hosted at Montgomery. We encourage all of our athletes to come out, watch, and maybe even help at the event.
NCS Redwood Empire Championships:
This Saturday is the NCS Redwood Empire Championships at SRJC. The meet performance list can be found at https://ca.milesplit.com/meets/621772-ncs-redwood-empire-area-championships-2024/entries.
You can read up on the meet, including qualification guidelines and schedule, on the Redwood Empire Area Guide. The meet starts at 9:00 am and will conclude at 3:40 pm.
Motivation:

Bryan Bradley Viking Track Classic:
Another Viking Track Classic is in the books. Thank you everyone for such a wonderful Viking Track Classic! We have received many compliments from parents, coaches and athletes on how smooth it ran, the great racing, and just an all around fun event! We even had a number of meet records set! Thank you all! This would not have been possible without each one of you!

Twilight Invitational:
Thank you everyone for your patience with the meet information coming out. In the end it was a great meet with some fantastic PRs, 27 in total, for Montgomery athletes. Redwood Empire Running has a couple of write ups about the meet.

This Wednesday is our home dual meet vs Windsor, it will also be picture day and senior day. Pictures are at 3:00, the meet starts at 4:00, and senior appreciation will be after the 800m races. Early release is 2:30, with athletes needing to be dressed in their uniform (singlet and black shorts) and at the track by 3:00.

First a huge congrats to Xander Newman for a massive PR this past weekend running the 110m hurdles at the Stanford Invitational.
This weekend we have three athletes (Seelah Kittelstrom, Amrie Lacefield, and Sadie Sanders) competing at the Arcadia Invitational in Southern California.
Our next dual meet will be April 10th at Santa Rosa HS. First event starts at 4:00 pm.

Santa Rosa Field Events Jamboree - Montgomery is running the Long/Triple Jump pits at the Santa Rosa Field Event Invitational Jamboree. We are looking for eight volunteers to help. Jobs for volunteers include raking the pit, measuring, and recording results. If your child is a jumper this is a great way to see them compete up close. Sign up on SignUpGenius.

This Weekend’s Meets:
This weekend is busy for our team as we have a Fiesta, a Jamboree, and a Festival on our calendar! We will divide and conquer going to three different meets: Dublin Distance Fiesta, Santa Rosa Field Events Jamboree, and San Ramon Valley High Sprint and Field Festival. Check out our information page for the meets on our website. Tuesday evening we will post on that page which meet each athlete is going to.
If you are unavailable for a meet that day we need you to fill out the Planned Absence form on XCStats right away. Even if you have verbally notified a coach we need the form filled out.
Spring Break Practices:
During Spring Break we will be having optional practice at our normal time. We encourage you to come to practice if you are in town.
Motivation:
This week we are mixing it up. Over the weekend almost all of our alumni competing in college had a meet, so we are highlighting our alumni. Let us know if you know of someone missing from our list.

Big Cat Invitational:
The first meet of the season is in the books! It was great to see everyone perform with such heart in such harsh conditions as in typical Big Cat fashion the weather was a factor during the meet. However, our athletes still crushed it with some fantastic efforts and we are super proud of the Vikings! Check out the results on Athletic.net.

Gaucho Relays:
Relay meets are just plain fun events to watch and participate in while also providing a great opportunity for athletes to run events not offered any other time during the season. This Saturday will be the Gaucho Relays at Casa Grande High School. We will post meet information to https://www.montgomerytrack.com/gaucho-relays.php.

Parent/Guardian Meeting:
Tomorrow evening is our Parent/Guardian Meeting. It will start at 6:30 pm in the Student Union. We are asking for each athlete to have a parent/guardian attend this meeting.
Goal Sheets:
This Saturday is our first meet of the season, Big Cat Invitational at Santa Rosa High School. The meet starts at 9:00am and athletes need to arrive by 8:00am. Big Cat is notorious for being cold and rainy… current forecast shows a high of 49F with occasional rain showers.

Equipment:
For practice athletes need to wear properly fitted training (running) shoes, sweats, and shorts. They should also bring water and a post workout snack.
Specialty shoes/spikes - Specialty shoes/spikes are available at most running stores and online. Talk to your event specific coach for types of shoes/spikes needed for competition. We recommend getting your shoes as soon as possible as quantities can be limited. Fleet Feet offers 20% off for high school athletes and hosts a Spike Night on February 23rd.
Uniform - Our uniform is a singlet and black shorts/tights. The team provides a singlet for each athlete while the shorts are the responsibility of the athlete. The black shorts/tights need to be simple black without a pattern, large logos, or strips.

Great First Week:
The first week of practice is in the books and it was great seeing familiar and new faces out on the track! If you didn’t make it to practice this week it is not too late. Come on by and start training.
We practice 5 days a week, Mon-Fri, rain or shine. Arrive by 3:45 and ready to run at 3:50. Ready to run means shoes on, water drank, sunscreen on, and ready to step out onto the track.
If an athlete is unable to make a practice they need to notify Coach Kevin and their event coach using the “Planned Absence” functionality in XCStats.
Goal Sheets:

Setting and striving towards goals is an important piece of athletics. This first week of practice we will be working with the athletes to create short and long term goals. These goals will help us have tangible things to work towards. I like how Zig Ziglar put it, “Setting goals helps bring your future into your present and the present is the only time we can take action.”

Read up on Montgomery alumni Sara (Bei) Hall as she tries to qualify for the US Olympics in the marathon. Then tune in on February 3rd as not one but two Montgomery Alumni go for Olympic Qualification; Sara Hall and Kim Conley.

We will be using XCStats for communicating to athletes and parents/guardians. Athletes are required to have a profile on XCStats. Please have your athlete create an account and make sure they put parent/guardian contact in as well. To create an account they will need to register at https://xcstats.com/registration.php?school_id=975 using the code Vikings!24
Note: Their school email address will most likely not work, so they will need to use another email address.
XCStats allows us to send emails and text messages to the entire team or a specific sub-group.
In addition, XCStats will be used for results, tracking trends, and keeping track of attendance. It is a tool we started using last year and we are looking forward to using even more of its functionality this season.
Pole Vaulters:
If your athlete wants to Pole Vault this year please email Coach Kevin with their name and weight. This will allow us to make sure we have the proper size pole for them at the start of the season.
Online Athletic Clearance:
Make sure your student athlete is fully cleared through SportsNet. SportsNet Inc. provides secure online registration services for school athletic programs and your athlete must be cleared on SportsNet before participating in Montgomery Track & Field.
If Track and Field is your first sport of the 2023-2024 school year you will need a sports physical for your clearance. Clearance through SportsNet must be done prior to participation in practices.

Welcome to the 2024 Montgomery Track & Field Newsletter. We believe that keeping you as an athlete, parent, or guardian in the loop is going to be key to a successful season. One way we will keep you up to date is this weekly newsletter highlighting upcoming events, important announcements, and motivational videos.

Online Athletic Clearance:
Make sure your student athlete is fully cleared through SportsNet. SportsNet Inc. provides secure online registration services for school athletic programs and your athlete must be cleared on SportsNet before participating in Montgomery Track & Field.
If Track and Field is your first sport of the 2023-2024 school year you will need a sports physical for your clearance. Clearance through SportsNet must be done prior to participation in practices.

Concussion Testing (Pole Vaulters & High Jumpers):
Anyone participating in Pole Vault or High Jump must have up to date concussion testing. Montgomery's Athletic Trainer, Melissa Windrick, will be offering two dates for concussion testing:
- Monday, January 22 at 4pm in Room 80. Please bring your own Chromebook to test on.
- Monday, January 29 at 4pm in Room 80. Please bring your own Chromebook to test on.

Motivation:
Each week we will share a video to help inspire and motivate our athletes to learn the sport and strive for excellence. To start it off we are staying local:
